Nottingham Outlaws “A” 0 Pts, Birmingham Bulldogs 106

Birmingham Bulldogs Rugby League FC travelled to Nottingham to face the Outlaws “A” side looking to enhance their quest for a top two place in the table. This they did in the most devastating fashion, running in a total of 20 tries.
Skipper and full back Matt Dudley led the charge, going over twice in the first ten minutes. Prop Mark Bunn finished off good handling to score a try that right centre Sam Shepherd goaled. Tries from stand off Andrew Burton, lively right-winger Curtis Harris and left-winger Mark Court, all improved by Shepherd took Brum to the 30-point mark.
By half time, Birmingham had passed 50 points, the mercurial Harris scoring his second try, centre Dan Ventrella rounding off a fine move to touch down, Dudley posting two more touchdowns and Burton getting his second. Shepherd kicked two more conversions.

Brum’s Dudley and Burton had already accumulated six tries between them and in the third quarter the pair added five more – two to Burton and three to Dudley. Shepherd added goals to all five scores, one from the touchline being particularly noteworthy.

Nottingham kept at it, and the visitors’ line came under some pressure but despite the score line, Bulldogs defence was unyielding,

In the final minutes, Shepherd joined the try scorers’ list with a run down the right touchline to score in the corner, Burton made it a nap hand with his fifth touchdown and industrious scrum half Nic Evans intercepted and went some 60 metres for a deserved score, Finally, and fittingly, Dudley completed his “captain’s knock” with his eighth try which he goaled himself.

Dudley, inevitably, was Bulldogs man-of the match, with Burton and forward Jon Gadd in contention. Dave Ivemey was MOTM for Outlaws.

Next Saturday (August 3) Bulldogs have a tricky-looking fixture away to North East Worcestershire Ravens. A win here will help the push towards a top two playoff position in the final table (kick off 2:30)
