Disappointing Day At The Office

Birmingham Bulldogs Rugby League FC travelled to Coventry Dragons with a record of one win in their five matches played to date. Dragons, in contrast, came the match with a 100 per cent record and an average points per match tally of 66. Add the fact that Bulldogs were numerically below strength, and the result seemed fairly predicable; so it proved, despite Brum’s best efforts.

Despite a bright start, Birmingham soon found themselves on the defensive. Coventry scored at fairly regular intervals, running in a total of six tries, though only two were converted.

Brum did have their chances, but could not complete them, although Lewis Beatty was desperately unlucky in just failing to get to his grubber kick in-goal.

Bulldogs’ cause was not helped by a nasty looking injury to full back Stephenson who had to leave the field of play; fortunately he was able to return later.

HT: Coventry Dragons 28, Birmingham Bulldogs 0

The second half, in scoring terms, was a near-duplication of the first.

Dragons ran in six more tries, adding goals to three of them, while their defence, which had conceded less than ten points per match hitherto, proved unyielding.

To their eternal credit, Bulldogs stuck to their task but could not manage even a consolation score,

Stevan Ivic was Bulldogs’ man-of the match, with Lewis Snowden and Jake Higgins in contention.

Next Saturday [June 6] Bulldogs are at away at Northampton Demons (Kick off 2:30)
